TfL work begins to upgrade A2 speed cameras to enhance enforcement efficiency
Work has begun on upgrading average speed cameras on the A2. The work is part of a wider scheme to improve road safety across London. The A2 cameras are set to be upgraded by mid-February.
This will not result in any changes to speed limits or road layouts. The older cameras, which have been in operation since 2015 and 2016, will be replaced with newer versions. These new cameras will produce better quality images and improve the efficiency of back-office processing carried out by the Met.
To minimise disruption, work will primarily take place at night, with only single lane closures. The roads will remain open as normal at all other times. ADVERTISEMENT
Mandy McGregor, TfL's head of transport policing and community safety, said: "We're determined to reduce road danger caused by speeding as part of our Vision Zero commitment to eliminate death and serious injury from London's roads by 2041.
"Last year, speeding was a factor in over half of fatal road collisions in London, and these collisions were all preventable.
"Our average speed camera systems are approaching end of life which is why we need to take essential upgrade works to the cameras."
