Three people taken to hospital after lorry crash on M23

Emergency services were called to reports of a crash involving three cars and a lorry on the M23 southbound between junctions 9 and 10 near Gatwick airport, Crawley at 10.15am. Sussex Police, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service were all in attendance. Scene of the crash on the M23 (Image: Eddie Mitchell) West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service deployed fire engines from Crawley and East Grinstead to the scene, as well as a heavy rescue tender.

South East Coast Ambulance Service were also in attendance and assessed four people at the scene. Three of the casualties were then taken to East Surrey Hospital for further checks and treatment. Police were dispatched to close the road and direct traffic.

The M23 southbound has now been re-opened following scene clearance and vehicle recovery.
