Two HGVs crash shutting major A-road near pub for almost eight hours
A major A-road linking Gloucestershire with South Gloucestershire and Bristol was closed for much of the morning after two HGVs crashed[1] in the early hours of today (Friday, February 14). The collision happened on the A48 Bristol Road at Claypits, near Hilltop Garage at around 4.15am. A two-mile stretch of the road was closed in both directions between Claypits, near Eastington, and Cambridge, near Slimbridge.
This affected traffic heading north towards Gloucester and south towards Bristol. In a statement, Gloucestershire police said there were no serious injuries reported. The road, between the car dealership and the George Inn, was reported open by around noon.
The statement from police reads in full: "Police were called at around 4.15am this morning (14 February) following a report of a collision involving two HGV vehicles on the A38 Bristol Road near Hilltop Garage at Claypits.
"The road was closed between Claypits and Cambridge to allow the vehicles to be removed from the carriageway and the road to be made safe.
