Update: Average speed cameras on A682 Gisburn-Long Preston

AVERAGE speed cameras on the A682 Gisburn to North Yorkshire boundary are still to be switched on - almost a year after they were originally due to 'go live'. Lancashire County Council, which has installed the cameras on the Gisburn to Long Preston road as part of a package of GBP449,000 safety measures on the A682, originally hoped to see the cameras in operation in the spring of last year. The council has now told the Craven Herald that the cameras are in the 'final stage' of testing and will when ready be handed over to the Lancashire police force, but has not been able to say when.

Cllr Rupert Swarbrick, the council's cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said: "Our new speed cameras on the A682 Gisburn to North Yorks boundary are still in the final phase of testing and are part a package of safety improvements on a number of A-roads that have a history of serious incidents. ADVERTISEMENT "This testing is a rigorous process and when this work is completed, the new cameras will be handed over to Lancashire Constabulary.

"Once the cameras are fully operational, any further communication regarding the commencement of enforcement would be delivered by the Lancashire Constabulary.

"We would like to once again thank the public for their patience while we make these important safety improvements."
