Van driver skipped red light in M4 Hendy slip road crash

Ellis Steward, 21, of Danybryn Road in Gorseinon, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates' Court accused of driving without due care and attention. The court heard the victim exited the M4 at junction 48 on May 17, and went to turn right onto the A4138 towards Hendy. The traffic lights were green, and the victim turned right, following other vehicles.

Steward was travelling in a Volkswagen Crafter from the direction of Hendy, and crashed into the victim's vehicle.

Dashcam footage from the defendant's van showed he had driven through a red light. The court heard that the victim suffered "serious injuries", whilst the front of both vehicles sustained damage. Steward pleaded guilty to careless driving on January 15, and had six points added to his licence.

He was ordered to pay a ?307 fine, ?110 in costs and a ?123 surcharge.
