A14 shut in both directions after three-vehicle crash

A major road is partially closed and one person has been taken to hospital following a three-vehicle crash.

The A14 was completely shut near Bury St Edmunds, in Suffolk, after two cars and a van were involved in a collision on the eastbound carriageway at about 08:56 GMT on Thursday.

Three ambulances, two ambulance officer vehicles and a Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) vehicle went to the scene.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance landed on the westbound carriageway.

The westbound carriageway has since reopened but the road remains closed eastbound, according to Suffolk Police.

According to National Highways East, drivers can expect delays of 20 minutes and about two miles of congestion as they approach the closure.

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service added: "One person was taken to West Suffolk Hospital for further care."
