Driver dies in crash which closed M1
A man has been killed in an accident which resulted in the M1 in Leicestershire being closed for a number of hours on Sunday. Police said they received a call at 04:40 GMT on Sunday about a collision on the southbound carriageway near to junction 22, which involved a white VW Golf and a Leyland DAF HGV. The driver of the Golf was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, but no more details have been released.
The northbound carriageway was reopened during Sunday morning but the southbound remained shut until shortly after 18:00. The driver of HGV did not sustain any physical injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution and has since been discharged, officers said. ADVERTISEMENT
