A collision between a lorry and a car which ended up crushed against the central reservation of the A1 'could have been so much worse' after the driver 'amazingly' only had minor injuries.
The crash happened this morning just after 9am on the southbound carriageway near Catterick, North Yorkshire, when a lorry and a BMW collided in the outside lane.
Shockingly, the smaller vehicle was dragged 100 metres along the barrier but the driver escaped relatively unharmed.
The car could be seen hanging half off the ledge, with much of the roof crushed under the weight of the lorry carrying huge poles.
Drivers said the car was completely 'flattened' and both vehicles were being removed at around midday.
National Highways confirmed this morning there was also a fuel spill following the crash but one lane was reopened an hour and a half later.
Richmond Fire Station posted images on Facebook[2] and said: 'Incident involved HGV and car which collided and was dragged 100m down the central barrier.
'Amazingly minor injuries but could have been so much worse.'
