Dudley man, 22, charged after M6 crash that killed Wigan dad
Staffordshire Police was called to the M6 in Stoke-on-Trent at 9.55pm on February 27 to reports of a collision involving a Toyota Avensis and a white MAN Truck HGV between junction 15 and junction 16 southbound. The driver of the HGV, 58-year-old Cliff Tamou, from Wigan, who was out of the HGV as it had broken down, died at the scene. The police today (March 10) said the driver of the Toyota, Ghulam Haider, from Dudley has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and using a motor vehicle on a road without third party insurance.
The 22-year-old, who was injured in the crash, appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Saturday (March 8) and was remanded into custody. Haider is due to appear at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on April 7. Staffordshire Police said Cliff's family continue to be supported by specialist officers.
Paying tribute to him in a statement, his family said: "Cliff, who moved to the UK over 30 years ago from New Zealand and settled in the Wigan area, was a devoted husband, father to six children and five grandchildren.
"He was a lorry driver for many years and loved playing, refereeing and coaching rugby.
"The family have asked for their privacy to be respected in this very sad time."
