Five in court after being caught by speed camera on main road
The drivers were caught by the fixed camera on Blackburn Road in Egerton, near to its junction with Longworth Road. Being the main route between Bolton and Blackburn, the A666 reaches speeds as high as 50mph, but as it traverses the village of Egerton, it is under a 30mph limit. But drivers have been caught exceeding that limit by the speed camera in the village.
Kristian Chiarelli, aged 33, was caught driving a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS at 38mph past the speed camera on March 11 last year. Chiarelli, of Brown Leaves Grove, Copster Green, was brought before Bolton Magistrates' Court on February 19 to be sentenced. He pleaded guilty.
Chiarelli was fined GBP299 and ordered to pay a surcharge of GBP120 and costs of GBP120. He was also given three points on his licence. Naeem Karim, aged 52, was caught on Blackburn Road on April 29 last year driving an Audi A5 at 42mph. Karim, of Hollin Bank Court, Blackburn, was sentenced at Manchester Magistrates' Court on November 20.
He was fined GBP440 and ordered to pay a surcharge of GBP176, as well as costs of GBP90. He was also given four points. Read more: Seven people in court after being caught by main road speed camera [1]
Read more: Five go before court for breaking speed limit on the Devil's Highway[2] Shahmreen Khan, aged 39, was caught driving a Nissan Qashqai at 37mph on July 12 last year. Khan, of Gray Street, Bolton, pleaded guilty and was brought before Manchester Magistrates' on February 6.
He was fined GBP72, ordered to pay a surcharge of GBP28 and was given three points on his license. Muhammad Tahir, aged 67, was caught driving a Citroen Dispatch van at 39mph on June 1 last year. Tahir, of Bradford Road, Farnworth, pleaded guilty and was brought before Manchester Magistrates' on December 18.
He was fined GBP63 and ordered to pay a surcharge of GBP25 and costs of GBP120. He was also given three points. Nicholas Astley, aged 34, was caught driving an Audi A3 at 37mph on May 19 last year.
Astley, of Bury Fold Lane, Darwen, pleaded guilty and was brought before Manchester Magistrates' on November 27.
He was fined GBP40 and ordered to pay a surcharge of GBP16 and costs of GBP90.
He was also given three points.
