HGV crashes on M6 near Samlesbury causing diesel spillage
National Highways reported at around 1pm that the northbound carriageway of the motorway is closed between J31 (Preston New Road/Samlesbury) and J32 (Broughton Interchange) due to the crash. Two lanes on the southbound carriageway are also closed close to the crash site after the HGV involved came to rest on top of the central reservation. A picture from the scene shared by National Highways showed the HGV stuck on top of the central reservation with two cranes attempting to lift it off. Traffic remains heavy on the M6 in both directions while there are also delays on the M55, M61, and M65. A National Highways spokesperson said earlier today: "The M6 in Lancashire is closed northbound between J31 and J32 near Preston following a collision involving a HGV which has struck the central reservation.
"Emergency services including Lancashire Police are currently on scene. National Highways traffic officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management and strategic closures. "Lanes 3 and 4 (of 4) are closed on the southbound carriageway as the HGV has come to rest on top of the central reservation.
"Contractors are en route to assist with a large diesel spillage that is affecting all lanes of the carriageway." The crash caused queues to build up on several surrounding motorways (Image: National Highways) Delays are expected into this evening, with current estimations for traffic to return to normal around 7pm.
A Lancashire Police spokesperson also said: "We received a report of an HGV colliding with the central reservation of the M6 between J31 and J32 at around 1pm today.
"A man is receiving treatment.
"The northbound carriageway, and two lanes of the southbound carriageway, are closed."
