Horror moment lorry crashes after ‘crossing M60 and hitting six vehicles’
At least five people were left injured in the major crash

Horror pictures have shown the moment a lorry was crashed into an embankment after crossing the carriageway on the M60[1] and hitting six other vehicles on Thursday night (March 20).
Police, fire crews and paramedics raced to the scene between junction 15, for the M61, and junction 16 for Swinton[2]. A full closure was put in place shortly after 7pm.

The M.E.N understands at least five people were left injured, with one casualty rushed to Salford[5] Royal with serious injuries.
A number of others were being attended to by paramedics at the scene.

Pictures from the scene showed the HGV having crashed into an embankment beside the carriageway. Traffic was stopped as police, paramedics, fire crews and Highways officers attended.
Diversion routes were put in place as traffic was stopped within the closure on both sides of the carriageway. There was also e heavy amount of debris strewn over the road.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "We are responding to a collision on the M60 motorway at junction 15 in Swinton involving an HGV crossing the central reservation, into the opposite lane, before going into the embankment.

"At approximately 7pm this evening (20/03/2025), the HGV crashed into six vehicles.
The M60 is closed clockwise and anticlockwise between junction 15 and 16. Several people have been injured and paramedics are on scene.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At around 7.20pm today (Thursday 20 March), four fire engines from Heywood[7], Farnworth and Agecroft fire stations attended a crash involving a HGV and three cars on the M60 anticlockwise between junctions 16 to 15.
"Crews arrived quickly and worked with Highway Control and Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe and close the motorway.
Firefighters remain in attendance at this time."
