How speeding M5 driver caught twice dodged jail despite flouting ban

Ashlie Chadwick ended up in court after she was caught speeding on the M5 near junction 6 (Worcester)  on two consecutive days while banned from driving as magistrates branded her breach of orders 'flagrant'. She admitted exceeding the 50mph speed limit on the southbound carriageway of the M5 on June 28 last year between junction 4A (Catshill Interchange) and junction 6 (Worcester). Chadwick of Roman Crescent, Chester, admitted she broke a temporary maximum speed restriction when she appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on March 18.

Chadwick further admitted she was driving while disqualified when behind the wheel of the Volkswagen on the same date. She further admitted exceeding the same temporary 50mph speed restriction on June 29 last year, this time on the northbound carriageway of the M5 between junction 6 (Worcester) and 4A (Catshill Interchange). Chadwick further admitted a second charge of driving while disqualified during this traffic offence.

Chadwick received a suspended sentence order consisting of a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. She will be supervised for 12 months.  Magistrates decided to suspend the sentence because there was a 'likely prospect of rehabilitation by addressing thinking skills with probation'.

A prison sentence, though not immediate, was justified by the court on the grounds that the 'defendant has a flagrant disregard for court orders'. Chadwick must complete a rehabilitation order with a requirement to complete 35 days. She was further disqualified from driving for 36 months.

The guilty pleas were taken into account during sentencing and she was ordered to pay GBP85 costs.
