Inquest opens into death of biker dad killed in A494 crash

An inquest has opened into the death of a dad-of-two who died in a crash on the A494. Matthew Peacock, 32, died when his Honda collided with a Mercedes Sprinter van on the A494 near Llanferres on March 6. He was on his way to work at the Boots store in Broughton[1] when the collision[2] occurred at 9.16am.

At a brief hearing in Ruthin[3] John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales east and central, said the emergency services were called by an off-duty police officer from West Yorkshire who was first on the scene. Following a post mortem examination a provisional cause of death was given as multiple injuries, but further toxicity tests are to be carried out. Mr Peacock, a father-of-two from Mwrog Street, Ruthin, had only recently started work as a security officer in Broughton, having previously worked at the Boots store in Ruthin. The hearing was told he had been disqualified from driving. Colleagues said he was "known for his kindness, his warm smile and his willingness to help anyone in need." A fundraising appeal was launched to help Mr Peacock's family pay for the funeral and the target of GBP6,000 has almost been reached. The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
