LIVE: A19 closed in both directions after ‘serious’ crash involving HGV
Emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash involving a HGV on the A19 near the Nissan plant. Paramedics, police and firefighters are in attendance at the collision which occurred at around 11.30am on Monday. The carriageway, around 30 miles north of Teesside, is closed in both directions between A1231 Sunderland Highway and A184 Newcastle Road.
The road is likely to remain closed for several hours, National Highways has confirmed. A diversion for motorists is also in place, reports Chronicle Live[1]. A spokesperson for NEAS said: "We received a call at 11.29am on Monday 24 March to reports of a road traffic incident on the A19 near Sunderland.
We dispatched two ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, a rapid response paramedic, a duty officer, two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), and requested support from our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), police, and fire services.
