M5 crash casualty taken to hospital after van ends up in ditch
A person was taken to hospital yesterday (March 16) following a crash on the M5 motorway which left a van in a ditch. The crash, involving a van and a car, was reported to police at 1.45pm on Sunday. It occurred near Sedgemoor Services, between junction 21 and junction 22 on the southbound carriageway.
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said on Sunday afternoon: "We were called at 1.45pm today, March 16, to a collision on the M5 southbound between Junction 21 and 22. One lane remains closed. Emergency services are at the scene."
And this morning, March 17, a spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service confirmed that one person was taken to hospital by ambulance from the scene. The ambulance service spokesperson said: "We were called at 13:49hrs on Sunday 16 March to a road traffic collision near Weston-Super-Mare. We sent three double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer, and a doctor to the scene.
We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital."
All lanes of traffic initially came to a standstill[1] on the southbound carriageway shortly before 3pm on Sunday, and delays of up to 30 minutes remained at around 4.30pm, according to traffic monitoring site, Inrix.
All lanes were reopened shortly after 5pm.
