M5 crash involved five cars and a lorry in Gloucestershire
Five cars and a lorry were involved in a major crash which closed the M5 in Gloucestershire. The motorway was closed in the northbound direction at junction eight[1] this morning (Friday, March 28) after the six vehicles collided on the road. No serious injuries have been reported at the scene, Gloucestershire Police has said, but one person has been taken to hospital. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 11.10am and police officers remain to clear the backlog of traffic.
National Highways reported hour-long delays and miles of congestion in the area[2]. Gloucestershire Police advised motorists to take an alternate route around the closure. A Gloucestershire Police spokesperson said: "The M5 is currently closed northbound following a collision just before junction 8.
Emergency services were called to a report that five cars and an HGV had been involved in a collision at around 11.10am today, Friday 28 March. "It has resulted in the entire northbound carriageway being closed between junctions 9 and 8. Nobody is understood to be seriously injured but one person has been taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital to be assessed for their injuries.
"Officers are currently working to clear the traffic which has built up on the motorway and drivers are advised to find alternative routes at this time."
