Man seriously injured after ‘ladder falls off van’ on M56

The 80-year-old man collided with a ladder on the motorway

A man was seriously injured after it is believed a ladder fell off the back of a van. At around 3pm on Wednesday, March 12, police were called to reports of a crash on the M56[1] eastbound carriageway between junctions 16 and 15, near Dunkirk.

Officers attended and found there had been a crash involving a motorbike that had collided with a ladder which is believed to have fallen off the back of a white Citroen Dispatch van. The rider of the bike, an 80-year-old man from Eccleston, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Aintree[2] Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

The driver of the van, a 28-year-old man from Warrington[3], stopped at the scene and was spoken to by officers.

No arrests have been made at this time; however, enquiries remain ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
