Motorcyclist crashed into oncoming vehicle on A361

As previously reported, emergency services rushed to the scene on the A361 between Blackworth Roundabout and Lynt Farm Lane just before 12:30pm on Monday, March 17. Following the crash police said the motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, sustained serious life changing injuries and was taken to hospital. Since then Wiltshire Police have released more information about the crash.

They said the motorcyclist was travelling southbound towards Highworth at around 12.24pm when he attempted to overtake a white van. His motorcycle then crashed into an oncoming vehicle, a spokesperson said. The spokesperson added: "The motorcycle was badly damaged and the rider, a man in his 30s, suffered life changing leg and pelvic injuries.

"He remains in hospital in a serious condition." Following the incident the road remained closed for around 24 hours before it was reopened on Tuesday, March 18. An appeal as since been released calling for witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Rich Hatch from SCIT has since said: "I would like to thank the members of the public who assisted with the collision yesterday in what was a very challenging scene. "We acknowledge that those who witnessed the incident may be suffering from some trauma and want to signpost them to some support. We'd urge you to contact the charity BRAKE or speak to your own GP if you think you need some help with trauma management.

We also ask that witnesses do not move debris before emergency services arrive."

At the time a spokesperson for Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity also said: "Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity was called to a road traffic collision in the Swindon area at 12:24 on Monday 17 March 2025.

"We responded in our helicopter and treated a patient on scene, before airlifting the patient to Southmead Hospital in Bristol."
