New map reveals locations of speed cameras planned for Acle Straight

Highway bosses are preparing to reduce the speed limit on the A47 between Great Yarmouth and Acle from 60mph to 50mph, saying it is needed to prevent crashes and deaths. The reduced speed limit will be enforced by four average speed cameras which use automatic number plate reading to record speed between two points. The cameras will be installed near the Acle roundabout, close to the Halvergate turn, approximately halfway between that junction and Great Yarmouth, and close to the Vauxhall roundabout.

"This scheme aims to improve safety for all road users by reducing the number of people harmed on this route.

"We are not responsible for the enforcement of speed limits, that responsibility lies with the relevant police force."

Between 2017 and 2021 there were 54 crashes on the 6.8-mile Acle Straight, with 138 people hurt.

Cutting the limit to 50mph will add just under a minute and a half to journeys along the road.
