Newmarket Road closed for three hours after van and pedestrian crash incident

A busy Cambridge[1] road was closed this morning (Wednesday, March 12) with traffic queuing in both directions following a collision between a van and a pedestrian. Newmarket[2] Road was closed in the eastbound direction at the McDonalds roundabout and Ditton Lane. Emergency services were called to the scene at 8.35am with reports of a van colliding with a pedestrian. Emergency services remained in the area until the road reopened at around 11:40am.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: "We were called at 8.35am today with reports of a collision between a van and a pedestrian on Newmarket Road, Cambridge. "Officers are at the scene with firefighters and paramedics and the road is currently closed at the McDonalds Roundabout, Ditton Lane and Newmarket Road. "The pedestrian, a man, has been taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries."

Inrix, the traffic data monitoring company, said: "A1303 Newmarket Road Eastbound re-opened, traffic easing, accident cleared from A1134 Barnwell Road to B1047 Ditton Lane."
