One person airlifted to hospital after car ‘lands on pedestrian’ following collision

A 60-year-old man and his dog have died after a car 'flipped over and landed' on them at a busy junction, with several people, including young three young girls, reportedly injured in the incident.

Police were called to reports of a car that had flipped onto its side and had 'landed on a pedestrian' during a horror crash in Greater Manchester on Sunday.
The accident, which took place in Wythenshawe shortly before 5pm on Sunday, saw two air ambulances in attendance - one of which evacuated the man to hospital in a serious condition.
A woman in her 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
She has since been released on bail.
The incident took place at the junction with Hollyhedge Road and Greenwood Road, saw a host of emergency response vehicles in attendance.
Two air ambulances were seen landing at the scene of the accident, alongside several incident response units, paramedics, fire fighters, police and enhanced rescue units.
It comes amid reports that a local mother said her three young daughters were all taken to hospital following the incident, with the family travelling in a taxi at the time. A large cordon was put in place and remained throughout the afternoon and evening for investigations to take place. A taxi was seen taped off within the cordon, alongside a second car. A third vehicle was seen lying on its side surrounded by evidence screens. It comes as police confirmed they are now appealing for witnesses and information in relation to the deaths. The force confirmed the black vehicle was involved in a head on collision, with the car colliding "with another vehicle on the opposing carriageway". A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said in a statement on Monday: "Shortly before 5pm on Sunday 9 March 2025, we were called to reports that a pedestrian and a dog had been struck by a vehicle at the junction Hollyhedge Road and Greenwood Drive, in Wythenshawe." "Emergency services were in attendance, but despite their best efforts, the pedestrian, a man in his 60s, and a dog sadly died at the scene," the force continued. "A woman in her 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She has been released on bail. "We are now appealing for witnesses to help us with our enquiries. "The vehicle, a black car, was travelling south on Greenwood Drive towards the junction of Hollyhedge Road. "As the vehicle entered the junction it collided with another vehicle on the opposing carriageway, before hitting a pedestrian and sadly causing fatal injuries at the scene to him and his dog. "There were no other serious injuries to report." Anyone with information, dashcam footage or ring doorbell footage has been urged to contact police on 101 quoting log 2270 of 09/03/2025. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "Just before 5pm this evening (Sunday 9th March), two fire engines from Stockport Central and Wythenshawe fire station, along with the Technical Response Unit from Ashton, were call to an incident on Greenwood Road, Wythenshawe.
