Part of M60 near Salford closed as lorry crashes into six vehicles

A stretch of the M60 in Salford is closed after a lorry crossed the embankment and smashed into six vehicles on Thursday night, 20 March.

Emergency services were called to the crash between junction 15, for the M61, and junction 16 for Swinton.

The motorway was closed both ways after the crash, with diversions in place. The road has now re-opened anti-clockwise, but remains closed clockwise.

Delays to motorists are expected into the morning.

On Thursday, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "We are responding to a collision on the M60 motorway at junction 15 in Swinton involving an HGV crossing the central reservation, into the opposite lane, before going into the embankment.

"At approximately 7pm this evening (20/03/2025), the HGV crashed into six vehicles. The M60 is closed clockwise and anticlockwise between junction 15 and 16.

Several people have been injured and paramedics are on scene.

"We ask motorists avoid this section of the M60 this evening.
