Person in hospital after M5 crash between Weston and Burnham
From around 2pm, people were stuck on the motorway southbound between J22 (Edithmead) and J21 (Weston-Super-Mare) when a white van was spotted in a ditch on the side of the road. At first, all lanes were closed southbound, causing a major buildup of congestion along the M5 just south of Weston-Super-Mare, which led to huge delays.
Police confirmed that they were called out at 1:45pm to the incident - which they reported as a collision.
A spokesperson from the Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called at 1:45pm today (Saturday 16 March) to a collision on the M5 southbound between J21-22. One lane remains closed. Emergency services are at the scene."
