Police have launched an appeal after a lorry driver was tragically killed in a horror crash on the M6 southbound.

Officers said the lorry driver was out of his vehicle at the time of the fatal collision.

The crash involved a Toyota Avensis and happened between J16 for Crewe and J15 for Stoke-on-Trent[1] just before 10pm on Thursday, February 27.

Paramedics found the lorry driver in a critical condition.

Despite their best efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man, who was driving the car, was treated for potentially serious injuries before being taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital for treatment.

Staffordshire Police[3] today urged anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the force.

A force spokesperson said: "We are appealing for witnesses after a fatal collision on the M6 near Stoke-on-Trent.

"We were called at 9.55pm on Thursday to reports of a collision involving a Toyota Avensis and a white HGV on the M6 junctions 15 and 16 southbound.

"Sadly, the driver of the HGV, who was out of the HGV as it had broken down, died at the scene.

"Were you travelling south on the M6 towards junction 15 on the evening of February 27?

A West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman previously said: "On arrival crews found two men.

"The first patient, the driver of the lorry, was found in a critical condition and sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him, and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.

"The second patient, the driver of the car, was treated for potentially serious injuries before being conveyed under blue lights and sirens to Royal Stoke University Hospital."
