Police issue appeal for witnesses after pedestrian struck by HGV is rushed to hospital

POLICE Scotland have issued an appeal for witnesses following a road traffic incident that saw a man hit by an HGV. The accident occurred on Sunday in Edinburgh's Craigmillar[1] Park with a Volvo lorry running down a 55-year-old man. Following the accident, the man was rushed to the Royal Infirmary where he remains in critical condition, receiving treatment for his injuries.

The lorry failed to stop at the scene with police launching a search for the vehicle and driver soon after the accident[2].

Both were eventually traced by officers who identified the driver as a 37-year-old male, but it remains unclear what the cause of the collision was. Police[3] investigations into the incident are ongoing with the scene closed off to the public and to traffic. The A701 was closed while investigations were carried out, reopening last night at 10:15pm.

The crash occurred near Craigmillar Park, close to the junction with Lygon Road, with police now asking for any witnesses to come forward. Edinburgh road policing constable Mhairi Deuchar said: "I'm appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident, or who has any information about what happened, to contact us. "I'd also ask drivers with dashcams who were in the area at the time to please review your footage and bring anything you think may be significant to our attention."

Anyone with information is urged to call Police Scotland[4] on 101 quoting reference 2676 of 2 March.
