Police issue update on serious A19 crash near Northallerton

Police and paramedics were called to the major route on Saturday, March 8,[1] after a green Toyota Aygo and silver Ford Tourneo van crashed near Northallerton, close to Exelby Services. A large stretch of the northbound route was closed off between the A172 in Northallerton and the A67 in Yarm following the incident, which took place around 2pm. National Highways Yorkshire confirmed the crash was serious on Saturday, with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) later adding that three people had been taken to hospital.

Now, North Yorkshire Police has confirmed that the injuries to the drivers and passengers involved in the crash are not believed to be life threatening. It confirmed the road was clear before 4pm. A force spokesperson said: "Police were alerted by the ambulance service at 1.39pm (Saturday 8 March 2025) and the collision involved a green Toyota Aygo car driven by a woman and a silver Ford Torneo van driven by a man.

"Highways assisted with a rolling roadblock to while the emergency services worked at the scene. The injuries to the drivers and passengers are not believed to be life-threatening. "The road was clear just before 4pm."

A YAS spokesperson previously said: "At approximately 1.40pm on Saturday, March 8, we were called to an incident involving two vehicles travelling northbound on the A19 at Exelby Services near Northallerton. "We sent two ambulances and a team leader to the scene and conveyed three patients to hospital."
