Police seek witnesses after 80-year-old motorcyclist suffers serious injuries after colliding with a ladder on the M56

A Warrington man has been quizzed by police after an 80-year-old man riding a motorbike on the M56 suffered serious injuries following a collision with a ladder, believed to have fallen off a van.

The incident occurred at around 3 pm yesterday, Wednesday, when police were called to reports of a crash on the eastbound carriageway of the M56 between junctions 16 and 15.

Police found there had been a collision involving a motorbike that had collided with a ladder which is believed to have fallen from a white Citroen Dispatch van.The rider of the motorbike, an 80-year-old man from Eccleston, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Aintree Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.A 28-year-old man from Warrington was stopped at the scene and spoken to by police.A Chehsire Police spokesperson said: "No arrests have been made at this time, however enquiries remain ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident and officers are appealing for witnesses and video footage."Anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with any video footage, is asked to contact Cheshire police on 101, or visit www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us[1], quoting IML 2046010
