Police statement as air ambulance called out to A53 crash
Police reportedly turned drivers back from the scene of a smash on the A53 - which saw the air ambulance land. Emergency services were called to the stretch through Longsdon at the School Lane junction. Motorists say during the height of Monday afternoon's incident officers turned them round from the scene of the smash. As reported by StokeonTrentLive[1] West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] had sent two ambulances and the air ambulance to the collision after the alarm was raised just after 12.55pm on Monday.
A spokesman for the service said: "We were called to reports of a collision between a car and a van at the junction of the A53 and School Lane, Longsdon at 12.57pm. We sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a Community First Responder and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Tatenhill to the scene. "On arrival crews found three patients: a woman and two men.
The first man, the driver of the car, was assessed for potentially serious injuries and conveyed to Royal Stoke University Hospital[3] by land ambulance. The woman, a passenger in the car, was assessed for injuries not thought to be serious. The second man; the driver of the van, was assessed at the scene.
Both were discharged with selfcare advice." Staffordshire Police[4] has today issued a brief statement on the smash. A spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a collision between a car and a van.
A man and a woman were taken to hospital by ambulance and the driver of the van was treated at the scene but did not attend hospital."
