A thug who stabbed a member of staff at David Lloyd in the head, Rikki Berry's killers and Lee Harrison were among the criminals from across Merseyside who were jailed this month. Also locked up was MP Mike Amesbury, before he successfully appealed his sentence.
Meanwhile, Liverpool Crown Court[1] heard that two teenagers enacted revenge by shooting at a rival in the street within 20 minutes of an arson attack at the home of one of their grandads. Here are the faces of 52 defendants from our region who were imprisoned during February:
Timmy Donovan, Christopher Roper, James Vaughan and Arron O'Sullivan

A police raid on a car dealership brought down a multi-million pound money laundering scheme involving a man who killed an off-duty police officer.
The highly prolific scheme saw six men wash huge quantities of cash obtained through the proceeds of drug trafficking.
The plot, led by Timmy Donovan[2], involved drop offs of hundreds of thousands of pounds in cash a time at Wavertree[3] Car Centre, where Christopher Roper was an employee. The top man also deployed his brother-in-law James Vaughan and Arron O'Sullivan to chase debts and organise cash drops. Deliveries were largely completed by taxi driver Paul Duncan and Kenneth Kean, who were referred to in messages on encrypted communications platform EncroChat as Boris and Theresa.

Donovan was jailed for 14-and-a-half years. O'Sullivan received seven-and-a-half years, while Vaughan was imprisoned for four years and three months.

Roper was locked up for three years and 10 months.
Kean and Duncan were both handed two years in prison suspended for two years.

Instead, he ran a red light and smashed into the side of a car.
His pillion passenger suffered devastating and life-changing injuries, including a broken neck, as a result of the incident and spent months in hospital.
Addy admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink driving. He was jailed for 30 months and banned from driving for five years.
Ewan Blair

A "deplorable" rapist attacked two women within days of each other. Ewan Blair[8] sexually assaulted two women in their 20s after befriending the women in Liverpool city centre[9].
The 21-year-old was convicted of three counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, assault by penetration and oral rape. He was sentenced to eight years in prison and an additional two years on licence.
Gabrielle Dures

A drink driver crashed head-on into another car at twice the speed limit, leaving a woman with life-changing injuries and several others hurt. Gabrielle Dures[10] was the driver of an Audi A1 that crashed into a Fiat 500 on Coastal Drive, in New Brighton[11], on the evening of May 28 2023.
The 24-year-old, who had been drinking shots, sped along as her panicking passengers begged her to slow down.
She ignored their pleas and ploughed into the Fiat at 63mph, causing serious injuries to occupants of both wrecked vehicles.
Dures pleaded guilty to four offences of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. She dabbed away tears in the dock as she was jailed for two years and eight months.
Mariyan Grudev

A rapist nodded when a judge labelled him a "sexual predator" then smiled as he was jailed for life. Mariyan Grudev stalked a woman through the streets as she walked home from a night out before raping her[12].
He then struck again four years later in an almost identical manner, although his barefooted victim was bravely able to fight him off and run to a Tesco[13] supermarket for help after he had dragged the teenager into some bushes. The serial offender has a record of previous convictions for rape and sexual assault, committed in his home country as far back as nearly 20 years ago.
Grudev, who was assisted by an interpreter in the dock, was found guilty of rape by a jury following a trial but admitted attempted rape.
Wearing a blue fleece and sporting receding dark hair, he was handed a life imprisonment with a minimum term of 14 years minus the 555 days he has spent in custody to date.
Michael Ross

A dad operated an illegal "chop shop" from his Rice Lane garage, stripping stolen cars for parts. Michael Ross[14] took on a number of stolen vehicles with a combined value of around GBP150,000, causing "untold inconvenience and losses" for victims.

Elliot Ashton[17] asked the worker, his sister's ex-boyfriend, to call him a taxi before slashing him with a knife without warning, leaving him with a horrific wound across the side of his face which required 76 stitches.
The thug then ran outside and demanded a woman's car as an escape vehicle, telling her "I need a lift, give me your f***ing car".
He was ultimately arrested carrying a stab vest outside a Nando's restaurant after failing to flee the scene.
Ashton admitted wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article in a public place. Appearing in the dock wearing a navy blue coat and sporting short mousey hair, he was jailed for six years and nine months.
One man in the public gallery sat with his head in his hands as the sentence was passed. Ashton will be required to serve two thirds of this term behind bars before becoming eligible for release on parole, and was handed an additional three-year licence period.
William Rumsby

A pensioner's comment on a YouTube video led to him being sent to prison.
Police paid a visit to William Rumsby[18]'s hotel room after being alerted to the concerning online message.
Having then taken a look at his tablet device, a sickening stash of pictures and videos showing children aged as young as eight being raped was discovered by officers. He has now been convicted of such crimes for a third time and was today warned that he will be "left with very little life" if he continues his vile behaviour.

Her partner, a seasoned drug supplier with convictions both in the UK and Germany, loaded more than 300kg of class A and B drugs with a street value of around GBP20million onto the HGVs in order to pay off a debt.
His 25-year-old girlfriend also smuggled both cocaine and ketamine in her luggage through Liverpool John Lennon Airport[21].
Banks admitted importing class A drugs and money laundering. She was jailed for five years, while Burton will be sentenced at a later date.
Michael Edwards

A married couple violently attacked two women in their 60s in a Liverpool city centre[22] pub. Husband and wife Michael and Jemma Edwards[23] battered their victims in a rage after an argument broke out at Lime Street Central.

A rapist told a court "I'm not a bad person" but said he was "ready to accept his punishment" after his horrendous crimes were finally brought to light. To many, Nicholas Patrick[27] would have appeared a normal family man and hard working businessman.
But, in reality, he had been burying a dark secret for several decades, having committed a series of sickening rapes and sexual assaults over the course of many years during his childhood.
With this past having now been exposed, he has penned a letter to a judge in which he claims that he would "beg on his knees" for forgiveness.
Patrick admitted four counts of rape and three of indecent assault on the day he was due to stand trial. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a grey prison issue tracksuit, he sat with his arms folded and his head bowed as he was jailed for nine years.

Kai Buckney and Obakeng Sithole[28] sourced a gun and traced the man they believed to be responsible for the fire with rapid "efficiency" before chasing him down and unleashing a volley of shots in his direction.
Months later, they then used the same firearm again in order to enforce terrifying threats in retaliation for a brawl at Nando's. A judge described the series of events as "bearing all the hallmarks of a drugs turf war or feud".

Sithole was found guilty of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence by a jury.
Buckney admitted two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool, they were handed sentences of 14 years plus an additional five years on extended licence and seven-and-a-half years respectively.
Neil Jones

A thug attacked his girlfriend as she recuperated in hospital after giving birth to their baby and stalked her from a fake Facebook[29] account under the pseudonym "Bobby Firmino". Neil Jones subjected his partner to a series of vile assaults over the course of around two years[30], including repeatedly attacking her while she was pregnant with his child.
The youth club volunteer's "despicable" behaviour then continued within hours of her giving birth, having punched her in the face as their tiny son lay next to her in his cot. Two women walked out of court after labelling the victim a "grass" before violent scenes erupted after the domestic abuser was sent to prison.
Jones admitted engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour, stalking involving fear of violence and making threats to kill.
Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a grey Berghaus tracksuit top, he was jailed for 30 months and handed a 10-year restraining order.

He appeared to be shaking in the dock as he was jailed for 30 months.

The knifeman has been warned that he could be locked up for life over the incident, having already amassed a stack of violent convictions despite being aged only 19. His co-defendant meanwhile absconded ahead of his sentencing and remains at large.

Turner was jailed for eight months.
Bennett will be sentenced in April, with the preparation of a psychiatric report being ordered in his case.
Peter Rimmer

A thug drove his ex-girlfriend to a canal and threatened to drown her after stealing her dog[37]. Peter Rimmer sent a series of pictures and videos of the stolen pet, Nala, to his former partner over Snapchat after breaking into her house in the early hours, warning her: "Better come home because I've got your dog."
He then lured the hairdresser into his car, under the false pretence that the dog was still in the vehicle, before subjecting her to a harrowing "ordeal" which left her "begging for her life". This saw him assault her and threaten to deliberately crash his vehicle while driving her around Merseyside and West Lancashire over the course of around two hours.
Rimmer admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray and two counts of criminal damage.
Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool, he was jailed for two years and three months.

Vincent O'Connor

A dangerous robber directed an unsuspecting taxi driver down a dead-end near Anfield[40] Stadium before choking him and stealing his day's wages. Vincent O'Connor[41] paid the driver GBP70 to take him from Eccles in Greater Manchester to Kirkdale[42].

The 39-year-old also told officers she owed GBP350 to the individual, whom she said was known as "pornstar" and had a "fat belly".
She was jailed for for four-and-a-half years.
Lee Harrison and Terence Rice

Liverpool Crown Court[46] was told that Ashley Dale[47]'s boyfriend took a "downward spiral" after he "suffered a significant bereavement". He was said to have "sought a quick fix to break his financial spiral", having lost his job and been forced to move back in with his mother, and operated the "Kyle Line" alongside 36-year-old Terence Rice.

Harrison pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply heroin and crack cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to supply. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool, he was locked up for five years.

The 55-year-old currents sits in parliament as an independent, having been suspended by Labour after footage showing him punching the male emerged online. Amesbury was then removed from the party following his guilty plea.
However, he then successfully appealed against his sentence before the crown court.
A judge suspended his 10-week sentence for two years, meaning he was freed after spending three nights in custody.
Sean Marr

A domestic abuse survivor's new boyfriend appeared to be a "nice guy" until she Googled his name. Sean Marr[50] began a relationship with the woman after befriending her over Snapchat and claimed to "against men being abusive towards women".

The "young fool" claims to have been put to work in the trade by those higher up the chain after accruing a debt in relation to his earlier conviction for the same offending, for which he walked free from court having apparently claiming that he "wished to put it behind him".
Garrity admitted possession of heroin and cocaine with intent to supply and breaching a suspended sentence order. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool, he was jailed for four years.

This even saw him bizarrely halt the shocking ordeal at one stage and shake the war veteran's hand before resuming his attack. The thug then fell asleep on the housebound man's sofa, enabling him to flee in terror and seek help at a nearby petrol station.
Burgess admitted unlawful wounding and burglary.
Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool, he was jailed for three years and nine months.

The dad utilised his work as a cover for his illegal activities, but was caught red-handed couriering the illicit substances out of Merseyside in his van. He then went on to falsely claim that a business partner had duped him into believing that he was importing cigars rather then class B drugs.
Guo was convicted of importation of cannabis, supplying cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply by a jury. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool, he was jailed for five years and 10 months.

The 20-year-old suffered devastating injuries as a result of the incident and remains barely responsive in hospital more than six months later, having undergone 14 brain operations and counting. He is still "fighting for his life" to this day and is now "unable to undertake the most basic human functions".

All three defendants admitted conspiracy to steal a motor vehicle. Appearing via video link to HMP Liverpool wearing a grey Nike t-shirt, Agatha nodded as he was jailed for three years.
Tollitt, who also pleaded guilty to two drug supply offences and wore a navy blue hoodie in the dock, showed no reaction as he was handed four years and four months.
