Two taken to hospital after M60 lorry crash

Two people have been taken to hospital after a lorry crashed through the central reservation barrier and hit six vehicles on the opposite carriageway.

The motorway was shut in both directions between Junction 16 at Pendlebury and Junction 15 at the M61 Swinton Interchange after the crash which happened at about 19:20 GMT on Thursday, National Highways said.

Five people were assessed by the North West Ambulance Service with two people taken to hospital, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said.

The extent of their injuries are not known.

The anti-clockwise carriageway reopened earlier but the M60 remains closed clockwise between Junction 16 and Junction 15 at the M61 Swinton Interchange.
