Woman dies following crash on motorway near Bridgwater

A women in her seventies has died following a collision on the M5 in Somerset.

The incident happened between junctions 24 and 23 of the motorway in the early hours of Sunday morning (March 23).

Police say it involved a pedestrian and lorry.

Emergency services attended but the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Both the northbound and southbound carriages of the M5 were closed for much of Sunday while investigations were carried but have now fully reopened.

Police say the woman's next of kin have been informed.

They are now appealing. for any witnesses to the incident or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
