Woman taken to hospital after A417 crash near Cirencester
Part of the A417 near Cirencester was closed and emergency services in attendance due to the collision. According to the AA's traffic news map, a car and a lorry were involved on the A417 northbound from the Winstone/Elkstone turn-off to the B4070 at Birdlip. A spokesperson for Gloucestershire police said police were called just after 9am following a report of a crash involving a lorry and a car on the road near the turn-off to the B4070 at the village.
"Emergency services attended the scene of the collision, and a woman was taken to hospital to be assessed for her injuries," the spokesperson said. "The road was closed to allow the vehicles to be recovered and was reopened at around 11.55am. "Anyone who witnessed the collision but has not yet spoken to police is asked to submit information by completing the following online form quoting incident 73 of 4 March: gloucestershire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report[1]"
National Highways for the South-West said just after 12pm that the A417 had reopened between the A429 Cirencester and the A436 Gloucester. However, it later added that one lane remained closed. "The A417 is now open northbound between the A429 Cirencester and the A436 Gloucester following a collision involving a car and a HGV," it initially said on social media.
"Please allow extra time if travelling in the area as there are delays of approximately 10 mins remaining and one mile of congestion." National Highways for the South-West then added: "Lane 1 remains closed on the A417 northbound between the A429 Cirencester and the A436 Gloucester for recovery and clear-up works following a collision. "Delays of 10 minutes.
"Thanks for your patience." National Highways for the South-West had said on social media that the A417 was closed northbound between the A429 Cirencester and the A436 Gloucester. The AA's traffic news map also reported that the A417 was closed in the area.
It added that traffic was queuing. "Road closed and queueing traffic due to crash," it said. "A car and a lorry are involved on the A417 northbound from the Winstone/Elkstone turn-off to the B4070 at Birdlip.
"Note change of location. "Sensors indicate the closure has extended further north." National Highways said on its website: "The A417 in Gloucestershire is closed northbound between the A419 (Cirencester) and the A436 (Air Balloon) due to a collision involving a car and a HGV.
"Emergency services including Gloucestershire police are in attendance. "Diverted traffic is advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol: "Leave the A419 at Burford Road Interchange exit slip.
"At the first roundabout, take the third exit onto the A429. "At the second roundabout, take the second exit onto the A429. "At the first set of traffic lights, turn left onto the A429.
"At the second set of traffic lights, continue straight on. "At the roundabout, take the first exit onto the A40 towards Cheltenham. "At the traffic lights, take the left slip lane and turn left onto the A436 towards Gloucester.
"At The Air Balloon Roundabout, take the second exit to re-join the A417. "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. "Plan ahead.
