A27 closed after cooking oil spill

A major route is closed in both directions after a crash led to cooking oil being spilt across the carriageways.

The A27 between Emsworth and Chichester is shut after the incident involving a van and a trailer, which crossed from one carriageway to the other.

The trailer contained cooking oil which requires specialist clean-up, National Highways said.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is at the scene and diversion routes have been put in place.

Those travelling eastbound have been recommended to exit the A27 at the Emsworth Interchange and travel along the A259 until the Fishbourne Roundabout, where the A27 can be re-joined.

Westbound motorists should follow the same directions but in the opposite order, National Highways said.

It added motorists should plan ahead of travelling and allow extra time for their journeys.
