A500 closed for five hours and counting after lorry smashes into three vehicles
A section of the A500 remains closed tonight. It follows a crash which saw a lorry smash into three vehicles. The A500 has been closed since 4.10pm this afternoon.
It is shut between the Hanchurch roundabout for junction 15 of the M6 and the A34 junction at Hanford. A Staffordshire Police[1] spokesman said: "Thank you to the public for your patience as we have been dealing with a multi-vehicle collision on the A500 this afternoon. A lorry went over the junction 15 roundabout and collided with three other vehicles at around 4.10pm.
One person was taken to hospital with a neck injury and others were treated at the scene. "The A500 - between the A34 and junction 15 - remains closed for the time being as we clean up a large fuel spill and recover the vehicles. Please avoid the area for the time being."
Traffic monitoring system Inrix has confirmed the A500 remains closed. It states: "The A500 southbound is blocked due to a multi-vehicle accident and fuel spillage from the A34 Hanford Interchange and the M6 junction 15." A National Highways spokesman added: "The A500 southbound in Staffordshire remains closed between the A34 and the M6 to treat a fuel spillage following a multi-vehicle collision."
