Boy, 14, killed in M6 crash after van hits tree
His dad, who was driving the van, suffered serious injuries

A 14-year-old boy died after a van left the motorway. The M6 was closed in both directions between junction 34 (near Lancaster) and J33 (near Galgate) following the incident, which took place around 12.15pm on Sunday[1], April 20.
A Peugeot van left the carriageway between the two junctions southbound near to university hill and crashed into a tree. The teenage passenger in the van suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.
The driver, a man in his 30s and the dad of the boy, suffered serious injuries.
He was taken to hospital where he remains. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Article continues belowTraffic was held on the northbound carriageways to allow North West Air Ambulance to land at the scene. All lanes reopened on the northbound carriageways at around 1.50pm, according to traffic news service Inrix.
At around 2.10pm, all lanes southbound reopened as well.
Sgt Martin Wilcock, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Lancashire Police[2], said: "This collision has very sadly resulted in the death of a young man and left another man with serious injuries and my thoughts are with their loved ones.
"I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened, and who hasn't yet spoken with police, or anyone with dashcam or mobile footage, to get in touch.
"I would also like to speak to anyone who saw the van in the moments before the collision."
