Braintree Halstead Road crash: woman dies at scene

The rider and passenger of a motorbike were in collision with a light goods truck yesterday afternoon on Halstead Road, near High Garrett. Sadly, it has now been confirmed a woman aged in her 60s died at the scene. A man, also in his 60s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life threatening at this stage.

The truck driver was arrested at the scene and continues to assist with the force's enquiries. They have been released under investigation. The road was closed in both directions between the junctions of Gosfield Road and Rayne Hatch Wood Road.

Officers are appealing for information, CCTV, dashcam or other footage in relation to the incident. A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called to a two-vehicle collision on A131 Halstead Road, near High Garrett, around 12.50pm on Tuesday, April 1. "The rider and passenger of a motorbike were in collision with a light goods truck.

"A woman aged in her 60s, sadly died at the scene. A man, also in his 60s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries - at this stage, they are not believed to be life threatening. "The truck driver who was arrested at the scene, continues to assist with our enquiries and has been released under investigation.

"The road was closed in both directions between the junctions of Gosfield Road and Rayne Hatch Wood Road.
