Bullockstone Road in Herne Bay closed after car crashes and overturns
A road has been shut off after a car crashed into a gas line - causing a leak and leaving homes in the area without a supply. About 30 properties are affected by the outage, with a nearby caravan site also evacuated as a precaution following the collision in Bullockstone Road, Herne Bay.
The road has been closed between the A291 junction and the bridge over the A299 Thanet Way by police. Firefighters were also called to the accident at a new roundabout built near the turning for Lower Herne Road.
A spokesperson said: "If you're in the surrounding area, you may notice the smell of gas, but rest assured our crews are working alongside Kent Police and SGN to ensure the scene remains safe." Pictures seen by KentOnline show a black car on its roof, straddling the grass verge and pavement. The person involved in the crash has been assessed by paramedics.
SGN engineers arrived at the scene at about 6.30pm and are assessing the damage.
They are working to isolate the main and are making it safe, a spokeswoman told KentOnline.
Meanwhile, an earlier accident along the same road saw a Vauxhall crash into a lamppost.
The wreckage of the vehicle, with airbags deployed, remains at the scene opposite The Fairway.
Kent Police has been approached for further information about both collisions.
