Coventry Road closed live after police van overturns
An officer has been taken to hospital after a police van overturned whilst on a 999 emergency. West Midlands Police said the van struck a car at the junction of Coventry Road and Forest Road shortly before 2.50pm today. An officer was taken to hospital with injuries which are classed as non-life threatening.
No-one else was injured although paramedics checked two other patients at the scene. The vehicle stopped at the scene and the inbound carriageway is currently closed while enquiries continue. Traffic information service Inrix said: "A45 Coventry Road inbound closed, long delays due to accident from A4040 Yardley Road (Swan Island) to Berkley Road.
"Congestion to Aldi. The outbound side is back to Poets Corner. "The outbound side has reopened however the Inbound side remains closed.
"Diversion - bus services 60, X1 and X2." This is a breaking news story and we will bring you updates as we get them.

Coventry Road is now clear
In the last 20 minutes, Coventry Road has been fully reopened. Bus services 60, X1 & X2 are running their normal routes.

One of Birmingham's busiest roads was closed after a police van on a 999 call crashed and overturned. An officer was taken to hospital after the West Midlands force van collided with a car on the Coventry Road, at the junction of Forest Road, Yardley[1], just before 2.50pm on Friday.

Police statement: Officers were responding to 999 call during collision
West Midlands Police said: "We're investigating after a vehicle collided with a police van shortly before 2.50pm today (Fri) on the Coventry Road, at its junction with Forest Road, Yardley. "Our van was on blue lights responding to an incident when it was struck. "The vehicle stopped at the scene.
An officer was taken to hospital with injuries which are classed as non-life threatening. No-one else was injured. "The road is currently closed as we continue our investigations.

Clean-up operation underway

Statement: three injured, one seriously
West Midlands Ambulance Service have said three people were injured in the collision. A statement said: "We were called at 2.48pm to a road traffic collision involving a car and a van at the junction of Coventry Road and Forest Road in Yardley, Birmingham.
"One ambulance and two paramedic officers attended the scene. "Upon arrival we found three patients. "The first was assessed and had sustained serious injuries which were not life threatening.
"She received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment. "A second and third patient did not require treatment from ambulance staff."
