A minibus ploughed head-on into a car after veering onto the wrong side of the road in a horrifying crash.

The red Ford Transit smashed straight into the red Toyota which subsequently hit a red Volkswagen Polo.

The heart-stopping moment was caught on a dashcam as the cars approached a curve.

Suddenly, the van is seen approaching the cars, but it then does not turn back into its lane on the A30 Sherborne Road, Yeovil, Somerset on September 7, 2023.

The van's driver, Benjamin Charles Foster, 35, was crossing into a filter lane as if to turn right before continuing onward towards oncoming traffic.

The Toyota is seen trying to avoid it, but it's too late, and the crash has such an impact that the back of the car is lifted into the air.

Emergency services were called to the scene following the smash at 6.15pm, and the road was closed to traffic.

A man in his 60s was rushed to hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries, as well as a man and a woman, both aged in their late teens, with serious injuries.

A Dorset Police investigation led to Foster being arrested and later charged.

The 35-year-old of Yeovil in Somerset, pleaded guilty at Bournemouth Crown Court yesterday to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, as well as charges of driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence and using a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance.

He was jailed for four years and disqualified from driving for seven years.

Police Constable Adam Carr, of the Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: 'Foster's dangerous driving and failure to have a valid licence and insurance showed utter contempt for both the law and the victims who sustained serious injuries due his reckless actions.

'Through our enquiries, we were able to identify Foster as the driver responsible for this collision and ensure he was brought to court to face the consequences of his actions.

'We continue to urge motorists to make sure they have a valid licence and insurance to ensure they can drive legally on Dorset roads.'
