Husband pays tribute to ‘beautiful’ wife killed in Aston Wood golf course crash

A heart-broken husband has opened up about the devastating loss of his 'beautiful' wife who died after being struck by a van. Suzanne Cherry, of Aldridge, was at Aston Wood golf course when the vehicle veered off the road during a police chase. The mum-of-three was hit by the van at 10.25am on Friday (April 11).

Tragically, the 62-year-old died from her injuries in hospital four days later on Tuesday, April 15. Paying tribute to his late wife, Suzanne's husband said: "On Friday 11 April, while enjoying what should have been the safest of one of Suzanne's many activities, I watched in helpless horror as the life of my beautiful wife and our future together was snatched away in an instant. "Suzanne had an amazing and infectious zest for life which touched everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.

"She was unselfish, always ready to encourage with love and support those around her to achieve more than they themselves thought possible.

"Suzanne leaves a legacy and an unfillable void in the lives of her mother Maureen, her three adult children, two step-children and countless others from her work, her sporting activities and social circle. "Sue was loved, and will be painfully missed by her entire family and friends, we ask that our privacy at this difficult time be respected." Officers arrested three men in relation to the collision on Wednesday, April 16.

A 51-year-old from Bloxwich was arrested on the suspicion of murder, along with a 22-year-old from Dudley who was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. A 41-year-old man from Worcester was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, although he has since been released on conditional police bail. The other two suspects remain under questioning.

Three further suspects were arrested on Friday, April 18, as police hunted for a fourth suspect who fled the scene on foot.

Staffordshire police arrested a 34-year-old man from Wednesbury on suspicion of manslaughter, while South Wales police apprehended two suspects from Coseley on suspicion of assisting an offender. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is also reviewing the circumstances prior to the collision. Enquiries into the incident remain underway.

A force spokesperson said: "We are continuing to appeal for information and are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of Blake Street and Birmingham Road between Sutton Coldfield and Shenstone in the morning of Friday (11 April)."
