Monday, April 21
North Yorkshire man dies at French ski resort
Val Thorens ski resort (Image: Alamy/PA) Starting the week, news emerged that a 27-year-old British man who died after being buried in an avalanche at a ski resort in the French Alps is understood to be from North Yorkshire.
ADVERTISEMENT The fatal incident took place shortly after 10am on Thursday (April 17) at the Val Thorens ski resort in the Savoie region of south-west France, according to prosecutor Beno?t Bachelet. The man, who had been lying at the side of the road, was buried in the snow and carried about 15 metres by its force.
Police officers in the area were alerted by a witness and managed to pull him from the snow, finding him in cardiac arrest. He was given first aid at the scene and taken to a hospital in Grenoble, in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region, where he later died that evening.
Armed police swarm Ferryhill after reports of a gun - which turned out to be a paint gun
Police were in Ferryhill on Easter Monday after reports of a man with a gun. A caller who was driving past saw a group of men- believing they were in possession of a gun on Broom Road in Ferryhill just before 2.30pm on April 21.
ADVERTISEMENT Officers, including armed units, responded to the scene and upon further investigation, it was determined that the item in question was a large paint gun. No one was believed to be injured and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Person airlifted to hospital after A19 crash near Cleveland Tontine
On Wednesday, a person was airlifted to hospital after a car flipped onto its roof during a serious A19 crash.
Police, fire, and ambulance crews were called to the major route near the Cleveland Tontine on Wednesday (April 23) after a car was left on its roof in a hedge. Two air ambulances were called to the scene at around 5pm, with firefighters working to free a person who was trapped inside the silver vehicle and unable to free themselves. Dramatic pictures show the car on its roof with an air ambulance in the background, with the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service saying the person was safely removed and handed over to paramedics.
Man in 60s dies after medical episode on A19 Newcastle
(Image: GOOGLE) A man in his 60s has died after he had a medical episode in his van, which then rolled back onto the road and crashed with other cars.
ADVERTISEMENT Emergency services were called to the A19 between the Moorfarm Roundabout and Killingworth in Newcastle yesterday (April 23) following reports of a crash. The stretch of road was close for several hours and caused long tailbacks.
Police say a van driver, who had pulled into a layby, is believed to have suffered a medical episode but had rolled back onto the road into oncoming cars. Despite the best efforts of medics, he sadly died at the scene.
Thursday, April 24
Police called to Darlington brawl
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of assault after a street fight broke out in Darlington town centre. The men, aged 28 and 29, were arrested at the scene in the town centre after officers were called to reports of three men fighting near the indoor market, yesterday (April 24) at 1.15pm.

The victim is believed to have sustained minor injuries. They were arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and were taken into police custody.
They have since been released on bail while further enquiries are carried out.
