Lorry driver flees Woodhead Pass crash scene after smashing into wall
The road has been closed all morning

Officers are searching for a lorry driver who crashed into a wall on Woodhead Pass[1] overnight.
The key road between Tameside[2] and South Yorkshire has been closed this morning (April 1)[3] while 'extensive clean-up' works take place.
Article continues belowEmergency services were called out to the A628 Woodhead Pass in the Crowden area of Derbyshire[4] at around 1.20am.
Derbyshire Police says the driver had left the scene before officers arrived.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area this morning, with people asked to use the M62[5] and M1, or the A57 Snake Pass, to get between Manchester and Sheffield instead.
A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: "We received reports of a collision on the A628 Woodhead Pass, Crowden Stretch, just after 1.20am on Tuesday, April 1.
"The incident involved a lorry which was in collision with a wall.
"The driver of the lorry left the scene before officers arrived and enquiries are ongoing to trace them. The road was closed while the incident was dealt with."
Woodhead Pass remains closed while work takes place to clear the scene.
In its latest update on X, a National Highways Yorkshire spokesperson said: "The A628 Woodhead Pass remains closed in both directions between the A57 (Hollingworth) and the A616 (Flouch) following the earlier collision.
"Extensive clean up works remain ongoing at the scene. Consider alternative trans-Pennine routes such as the M62 or A57."
