Pair taken to hospital after three-vehicle crash that closed M6
At around 2am, a collision was reported along the M6 northbound, between junction 22 for Winwick and junction 23 for Haydock. Officers from Cheshire Police, Merseyside Police, and Greater Manchester Police all responded to the incident, as well as North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. It is understood that the collision involved a lorry and two vehicles, with two people taken to hospital for treatment.
Damage is also reported to have been caused to the motorway's central reservation, and the M6 was closed in both directions while officers dealt with the incident, which caused some disruption for early morning drivers. "This required a full northbound closure and the closure of two lanes southbound while emergency services and our traffic officers worked at the scene.
"The closures also facilitated recovery of the vehicles.
All lanes reopened at 5.22am."
