A pedestrian is 'fighting for his life' after colliding with a van on the busy A53 in North Staffordshire. Police have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses following the crash between a black Renault Trafic van and a man on the A53 Leek Road at Endon. The alarm was raised at 12.20pm this afternoon (April 10) with paramedics rushing the casualty to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.[1] The van driver, who was not injured, remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their inquiries.

The A53 remains closed in both directions between Clay Lake and Springbank Avenue as of 3pm. A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "We are appealing for information after a serious collision in Endon. We were called at 12.30pm today to the A53 Leek Road following reports of a collision.

"A black Renault Trafic van was involved in a collision with a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a man, was taken to hospital by ambulance. His injuries are believed to be potentially life-threatening at this time.

His next of kin has been informed. "The van driver, who was not injured, remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their inquiries. The road is currently closed at the junction of the B5051 Clay Lake up to St Luke's CE Academy.

Drivers should take alternative routes. "We are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling in the area with any information or dashcam footage which could help collision investigators." A West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Leek Road and sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer, a North Staffordshire BASICS doctor, and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford to the scene.

On arrival, crews found a van and a pedestrian had been involved in a collision. The pedestrian, a man, was treated by ambulance staff for serious injuries before being conveyed via land ambulance to Royal Stoke University Hospital[3]." Witnesses should call Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident 287 of April 10.
