REVEALED: The speed cameras that catch the most speeding drivers in Warrington

Cheshire Police has released 2024 statistics relating to fixed-position speed cameras in the town to the Warrington Guardian, following a Freedom of Information Act request. While the most activated camera in Warrington caught more than 1,000 speeders in 2024, others were activated zero times. The data also shows contrasts to figures from 2023, which were also released by the force on request.

Here is the data released by Cheshire Police for each Warrington speed camera in 2024:

  • A49 Winwick Road - 1,160
  • A49 Wilderspool Causeway - 142
  • A57 Manchester Road, Woolston - 12
  • A57 Liverpool Road, Great Sankey - 0
  • A49 London Road, Appleton - 0
  • A574 Warrington Road, Glazebury - 0

Here is the data released by Cheshire Police for each Warrington speed camera in 2023:

  • A49 Wilderspool Causeway - 702
  • A574 Warrington Road, Glazebury - 290
  • A57 Liverpool Road, Great Sankey - 102
  • A49 London Road, Appleton - 8
  • A57 Manchester Road, Woolston - 0
  • A49 Winwick Road - 0

In response to the data, a Cheshire Police spokesman said: "We, in partnership with each of the local authorities under Cheshire Road Safety Group, have at any one time 27 to 30 operational fixed-spot speed camera sites. "Six of these sites are in the Warrington area. "It is financially prohibitive and logistically impossible to have a camera in all sites.

Therefore, the cameras are moved around the force area so that the optimum use can be achieved. "The movement and positioning of the cameras, while trying to give an even coverage across the force, can be affected by a number of factors, for example, roadworks, loss of power to a site, damage, and for the annual maintenance required for each camera unit. "For these reasons, data between sites and dates cannot be directly compared.

"Cheshire Police supports the Fatal 5 campaign, which targets the main causes of road trauma and death, of which excess speed is one.

"Cheshire Police take excessive and inappropriate speed seriously, and challenges driver behaviour in appropriate ways.

"This includes by visible deterrent, education, and enforcement within the current policies set by the Government."
