Salesman caught speeding at 20mph over speed limit

Brandon Weston of Ryall Court Lane, Upton-upon-Severn, has been caught speeding by an automatic camera on the A38 Kings Mill/Kirkby Road in Sutton-In-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. The 56-year-old admitted speeding when the case was heard at Nottinghamshire Magistrates Court on March 31 after he was captured speeding by the camera on June 12 last year. The speed was 51mph on a road with a 30mph speed limit.

Weston was fined GBP669 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of GBP264 and costs of GBP110. A collection order was made, giving the court additional powers to recover the money.

He was further disqualified for holding or obtaining a driving licence for 14 days with the disqualification deemed 'obligatory due to repeat offending'.

Weston's driving record was also endorsed with six penalty points. Magistrates imposed a 'reduced disqualification'. The mitigating circumstance advanced to the court where that 'defendant is the only sales person for the company and the impact of not driving would have on the company'.

He also said it would have an impact on 'access to his daughter who lives in a remote area'.

Weston also told the court the reduced ban would 'allow him to support his mother with visits to hospital whilst receiving cancer treatment'.
