Tributes to beloved dad Kevin Wilson killed in Stanley crash

Kevin Wilson, 55, was a front-seat passenger in a Vauxhall Combo van involved in a three-vehicle crash on Causey Road, Stanley, at around 5pm on Friday (April 18). He was rushed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with severe injuries, but sadly passed away the following day (April 19). Durham Police confirmed that the crash also involved an Audi A1 and a Suzuki SX4 and said a teenager has been arrested. The 18-year-old man, who was driving the Audi, was detained at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while under the influence of drugs, and possession with intent to supply. He has since been released under investigation as enquiries continue.

A 15-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the Audi, sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital. She is expected to make a recovery. The Northern Echo reported on the crash at the time and previously said police, fire and the air ambulance attended the scene.

A Great North Air Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "Our critical care team was activated at 5.11pm to reports of a road traffic collision on the A6076 Stanley. "We had a doctor and paramedic on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 5.33pm. "Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assess and treat two patients.

"Our team accompanied one of the patients to hospital in a land ambulance." Durham Police said specialist officers are continuing to support Mr Wilson's family. An investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
