Two cars and van involved in M1 crash near Hemel Hempstead
At around 6am (April 3), Herts Police were called to a report of a smash on the M1 southbound, between junction 9 for Harpenden and junction 8 for Hemel Hempstead. Officers attended the scene and found that a Land Rover, and Audi, and a van had been involved, but no injuries were reported. All lanes are now OPEN on the #M1[1] southbound between J9 #Harpenden[2] and J8 #HemelHempstead[3] following a multi vehicle collision.

-- National Highways: East (@HighwaysEAST) April 3, 2025[5]National Highways closed lanes one and two, while leaving three and four open, while they dealt with the result of the crash. Lane closures were lifted by around 7.25am, although residual delays remain as of 8.20am.
There were around seven miles of congestion and delays of around 70 minutes for journeys on the motorway at peak, according to National Highways.
It also resulted in "heavy delays" in nearby roads including London Road, Markyate, according to Hertfordshire County Council Highways.
