Update after major crash forcing three hour A35 closure

On Saturday, a crash between a car and a caravan caused long delays on the A35 at Morcombelake. Dorset Police has now provided an update on the incident confirming a man in his 60s suffered a 'medical episode' and that there were no 'physical injuries'. The road was closed for several hours as the emergency services responded and cleared the road.

A police spokesperson said: "We received a report at 10.54am on Saturday 26 April 2025 of a collision on the A35 involving a car and a campervan. "Officers attended, along with the fire and ambulance services, and road closures were put in place. "The male occupant of the car was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The road was cleared and was reopened at around 1.45pm.

The road closure also saw disruption to local bus services with First Dorset's X51 and X53 were unable to pass the gridlocked traffic.

The bus company confirmed that vehicles were stuck either side of the road closure put in place and provided a shuttle between Axminster and Lyme Regis but all services from Weymouth and Dorchester were forced to terminate at Bridport until the road was reopened after almost three hours.
